ハタノ ワタルWataru Hatano
1971年、淡路島生まれの京都・綾部市在住の和紙職人。多摩美術大学絵画科油画専攻卒業後、黒谷和紙の研修生となる。現在では和紙の原料となる楮の栽培から和紙制作まで一貫して行う。黒谷和紙の保存にも多大な貢献をし、活動のフィールドは工芸、内装、アートと多岐にわたる。
また精力的に個展も開催し代表作品である「積み重なったもの」「窓からの風景」は空間に溶け込むアートとして多くのファンを持つ。
ハタノは作品の位置付けを「領域」とし、作品が置かれたその空間に対しある一定の領域を作り上げる。これは古来より日本人が得意とする空間把握能力に由来するもので、床の間や茶室などに飾られる美術品の想定に近い。
ハタノが作り出すアートは力強さと優しさが交差し、見る人を暖かく包み込み強く引き寄せる作品である。
Hatano was born in 1971 on Awaji Island, Japan, and is a washi craftsman living in Ayabe, Kyoto.After graduating from Tama Art University with a degree in oil painting, he became a trainee at Kurotani Washi.Currently,the company handles everything from the cultivation of kozo (Broussonetia papyrifera), the raw material for washi, to the production of washi.
He has also made significant contributions to the preservation of Kurotani washi, and his fields of activity are diverse, including crafts, interior design, and art.
He also actively holds solo exhibitions, and his representative works, "The accumulation of time" and "A view from the window" have many fans as art that blends into the space.Hatano positions his works as "area" and creates a certain territory for the space in which they are placed.This is derived from the ancient Japanese ability to grasp space, which has been their forte since ancient times, and is similar to the assumption of art works displayed in tokonoma and tea rooms.Hatano's art intersects with strength and tenderness, and him works warmly embrace the viewer and strongly draw them in.
