上前 功夫Isao Uemae

1985年兵庫県生まれ。「視線」をひとつのコンセプトに掲げ、時間や場所を超えて人々が「視線」を向け続ける対象をモチーフやタイトルとし、制作する。素材としているガラスは、かつてはテレビやパソコンなどモニターとして使用されていたブラウン管（CRT）ガラスである。鋳造すると生まれる深みのある色彩が神秘的な印象を作品に与え、見るものの視線を引きつけるが、この素材もまた、時間と場所を超えて人々の視線を浴び続ける物である。2008年大阪芸術大学工芸学科ガラス工芸コースを卒業後、同大学にて非常勤副手を務める。2014年からは非常勤嘱託、高校美術科で教鞭をとる一方で、他作家や企業への制作協力、建築空間への作品制作を多く手がけている。2016年からは金沢卯辰山工芸工房で専門員を務めた。現在、兵庫県・石川県にて制作活動を行う。

広大な天の海。底に浮かぶ雲は、立つ白波だ。月の船が渡って、星の林に隠れてゆく。

2014 年頃より、私は廃棄された工業製品(廃ブラウン管 CRT ガラス)を再利用して素材にし、
ガラスのオブジェを制作している。

素材は姿を変えても、素材を眺める視線の存在は変わらない。

時間と場所を超えて、
月や地平を眺める人々の視線が存在し、交錯するように、
素材を通して、
幾多の人々と繋がっているような気がしている。

Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1985.With “gaze” as one of his concepts, he creates works using motifs and titles of objects that people continue to “gaze” at, transcending time and place.The glass used as material is cathode ray tube (CRT) glass, which was once used as monitors for TVs and PCs.The deep colors produced by casting give the work a mysterious impression and attract the viewer's gaze, but this material also transcends time and place and continues to attract the gaze of people.In 2008, he graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Crafts, Glass Crafts Course, and worked as a part-time assistant at the same university.
Since 2014, he has been teaching in the high school art department as a part-time contractor, while also collaborating with other artists and companies, and creating many works for architectural spaces.
Since 2016, he has served as an expert at the Utatsuyama Craft Workshop in Kanazawa. He currently works in Hyogo and Ishikawa prefectures.

The moon boat crosses over and hides in a forest of stars.

Since around 2014, I have been reusing discarded industrial products (waste cathode ray tube CRT glass) as materials to create glass objects.

The material may change its form, but the existence of the gaze looking at the material remains the same.
Just as the gazes of people looking at the moon and the horizon exist and intersect beyond time and place, I feel as if I am connected to many people through the materials.
